Beginning My Depth Year

I’ve talked about it before, but I needed to get a baseline for my depth year. I want to delve deeper into my spirituality but also take way more time for myself. I can’t wait to bring everyone with me on this journey!

Hey everyone, it’s Megan. Welcome back to my channel and welcome to 2020. Wow. Okay. So, we’re officially in a new decade and I am ready to just, have a new beginning, I guess. I know I’m probably not the only person who is ready for that, but this is sort of my beginning of my depth year. Now I know I talked about my plans for my depth year in a previous video. You can find that up here if you haven’t seen it already. But I wanted to give sort of a baseline for my depth year because that was just my plans for 2020 and how I was going to do my depth year. And this is the beginning. So, yeah. Let’s talk about it. This is going to be a really laid-back video. I guess we’ll just start talking. So, I guess my main goal with doing a depth year is to be more introspective and more spiritually aware. I – I’ve always been super busy, super, you know, go go go. And its really time for me to take a step back from that sort of lifestyle, I guess. Now that I work from home and I don’t have to go to a typical 9 to 5, it’s going to be a lot easier. I know beforehand when I was having to go to work, I was having to leave my house at least an hour before I had to be there because I live like 25 miles from where I worked. And I had to drop my daughter off at her before school program and then drive all the way to work. And then it would take me just as long to get home. So, I felt really busy all the time and like I didn’t really have time for anything. I was always tired, and I was just over it, I guess. So, going into 2020 with my depth year, I don’t really have the goals that a lot of other people do with the spending less money and things like that because, as it stands right now, I don’t really spend a lot of money anyways. I don’t buy a lot of new clothes, I don’t buy a lot of like, frivolous things. Of course, I buy the necessities and I buy the things that my daughter needs. But other than that, I don’t really spend frivolously. If I spend, it has a purpose. And so, I’m just going to continue that in 2020. But the only thing that I’m going to change is if I do need to buy something new, I will hit up the thrift stores in my area first and try to buy secondhand. I know this isn’t always going to work. I don’t have a lot of options when it comes to thrift stores in my area and those are always the places that people pick over first, but I’m going to do my best to shop sustainably and buy secondhand. That is one of my big goals for 2020 and my depth year, is to take notice of what I’m buying, why I’m buying it, and where I’m buying it from and where it’s made from. Something else that I really want to do is – yes, to be more spiritually mindful – but to also take more time for myself. I don’t always do that, and it’s not good for my mental health. So, I want to read more books, and I want to keep up my journaling habit that I’m starting again. I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person that journals and writes down their thoughts and feelings and stuff for the day, but the habit never really stuck because I was always too tired or too busy. But I want to keep that up. I think that’ll be really good for my mental health as well as my spiritual practice because I could journal about tarot readings and rituals and spells and meditations. I mean, the possibilities are endless for journaling and I want to use that to my advantage for my mental health and my spiritual and religious practice. So, that is something that is going to be big for me in 2020 and I’m going to do my best to keep that up as well. And, yeah. A lot of the stuff that I want to do centers around me, basically, being selfish. And, there’s nothing wrong with that. I mean, I’m a mom. I am a partner, you know. And everything that I do, I do for them. They always come first. That’s just how I am. It’s my nature, but I also know that I need to take time to be a little selfish and do things for myself and take care of myself, too, because you can’t fill a cup with an empty cup, you know. So, I need to make sure to refill my own cup. And that’s going to be a general theme for my depth year. I think. I don’t know. We’ll see. But I do want to use my depth year to take better care of myself. I – since I work from home, I’m very sedentary. I’m not very active, you know. I sit at a desk or I sit on the floor, and I have my laptop and I do my writing and I do my video editing, and recording, and all of that stuff. So, I basically sit all day, and that’s not healthy and I am going to do my best to be more active, to – when the weather’s nice – I’d like to go for a hike every week. I do want to start doing some strength training exercises at home. I’ve already started, but I want to kind of kick it up a notch a little bit and just make sure that I’m sticking to that habit and taking care of myself. And another thing that goes into that is drinking more water. I don’t drink nearly enough water, and I know that’s a big thing and I really need to buckle down on that and drink more water. So, that’s going to be something else. But I feel like my depth year is going to be a lot different than some other people’s. You know, a lot of people are doing a no-buy year or, I don’t know. But I already do that. I don’t buy things unless I need them, so that kind of defeats the purpose if I say – yeah, I’m going to do a no-buy year! I already do that. I need to do something bigger, something different, something that I’ve never done before. And that’s this. But I am going to incorporate shadow work into my depth year and really work on that because it’s not something that I’ve done a lot of. And I really sometimes feel a blockage in my spirituality and just everything that goes on because there’s some stuff in here that I need to handle. And there’s some stuff in here that I need to try to understand. And the shadow work with my depth year I think is going to really help that. So, that’s another plan. Make sure that you’re subscribed, by the way, because my next live stream is going to be about shadow work and how to go about starting your own shadow work journey. So, little plug – make sure that you’re subscribed. But, yeah. I feel like, I don’t know. I don’t really know what to say for the start because this is the baseline. I don’t meditate every day. I don’t read every day. But these are things I’m going to start doing, or I’m going to attempt to start doing them. I already have a little morning routine where after I wake up and my boyfriend is gone for the day – and before my daughter wakes up for school – I sit down with my cup of coffee and I sort of plan out my day. Write down a to-do list. Things that I need to get done. Things that I’d like to get done. And that really helps me to focus, but I want to take that a step further in 2020 with my depth year and not only write down the things that I need to get done for the day but also create some sort of three-month plan, six-month plan, where I want to end up at the end of the year. Because it’s helpful for me to have those big-picture goals so that I can break them down into smaller, more accomplishable tasks throughout the year so that I do end up achieving those small goals to achieve the big goals. So, maybe I’ll take you guys along with me one morning and we’ll sit down, and we’ll do that together, but this is the beginning of my depth year. And I can’t wait to bring you guys along with me at the end of every month for a sort of check-in, how I’m doing, to keep me accountable for one. But also, I do want to share this journey with you and be transparent about the things that I’m doing so that you know that I’m not just saying “Do shadow work!” That I’m actually doing it myself. And that I’m not just saying “Buy sustainably!” And that I’m actually doing it myself because transparency is important to me. So, if you want to see my updates for my depth year, make sure you’re subscribed. Give this video a thumbs up, and I will see you guys later. Bye! [/expand]
