Be the Change

With the divisiveness that’s being seen across the world today, I started thinking about why this is happening. What is wrong in the world that would make the atrocities that are happening capable of happening? Where is our spirit? Where is our heart? Where is the love? Now, you know me if you’ve been reading the blog long enough. I don’t normally get all love and light, but that’s not where this thought process led me.

I think the love and light that so many people are pushing might actually be the problem. So many people send out their thoughts and prayers when bad things happen, but thoughts and prayers aren’t going to solve problems. Thoughts and prayers aren’t going to bring those dead children back to life. Thoughts and prayers aren’t going to help the grieving parents whose children were taken from this earth too soon.

What we need is action.

Change.

This change needs to come from the inside out, and it needs to start at home with yourself. This goes for everyone. Not just Wiccans. Not just Pagans. Not just Christians. But everyone. Our leadership needs to change. The fighting needs to stop. The nit-picking and bullying needs to stop. And the discussion needs to begin.

Real change can’t happen when both sides are tyring to drown each other out by seeing who can yell the loudest.

Real change can happen when our leaders take responsibilty for their actions and lack of effectiveness and productivity in their work.

Real change can happen when we, as citizens, realize that the politicians work for us. Our leaders work for us. If we aren’t happy with the way things are going, come election day, things will change.

But we have to be willing to see the change transform our own hearts where necessary. We have to be willing to BE the change that needs to happen in the world.

We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.

Start small.

Donate. Volunteer. Listen and respond, don’t react. Use the logical skills that were given to you by whichever higher power you believe in – if you believe in one at all. Don’t try to drown out opposing views because they make you uncomfortable. Sit with them. Reflect on them. Form opinions and solutions based in fact rather than emotion.

Maybe one day we can make the world a better place for our children. But we have to change the world by changing ourselves first.
