If you’ve been around here long enough, you’ll know that I live in Central Oregon. Right now, we’re being hammered with a bomb cyclone and snow is just dumping on us. Hooray, right before the holiday! Anyway, I wanted to share some tips for you on witching during the winter and what to do with that first snowfall.
Thank goodness for the first snow, it was a reminder–no matter how old you became and how much you’d seen, things could still be new if you were willing to believe they still mattered.

Guardians
Many people build snowmen this time of year, but did you know that you can actually use these as spiritual guardians of your home? Build a snowman or two, give them names, and draw sigils in them to imbue them with the power of protection. Entrust them with the job of protecting your home or property.
Kick Bad Habits
If you have something you want to get rid of, ball it up in a snowball (not physically, please) and throw it as far away from you as you can. Put all your energy behind your throw and kick those bad habits!
Cleanse and Renew
This is one of my favorite things to do, especially with the first snow of the season. I collect some every year and then add it to my mop water or sprinkle it around the home. I also mix it with a bit of salt and either put it in a squirt bottle or bucket. Then I spray my home with the freshly fallen snow, or I use it to cleanse and ward my thresholds in and out of my home.
Chill Out
Making someone chill out can be done any time, but freshly fallen snow is one of the best (in my opinion) ways to do this. Take a piece of paper with their name or a photograph of the person and put it in a ziplock bag or (preferably) reusable container full of fresh snow. Then pop it in the freezer until they chill out and calm down.
You can use snow in any way you use other water in your craft, it just has a different significance. Also, keep in mind that snow collected on a full moon, new moon, or during a blizzard is full of different energies!
