Thoughtful Thursday 9.5.19

Have you ever been afraid of something? I have. I’ve been afraid for my life, I’ve been afraid for my sanity, I’ve been afraid for my spirituality and my faith. Fear is a powerful driving force in human nature, and it is one thing we as a species tend to avoid when the threat is legitimate. I’m not talking about going out during Samhain season to haunted houses and getting scared on purpose. We know those threats aren’t real. Those people dressed in costumes popping out of the walls aren’t going to really hurt us. That’s fear for fun.

But why do we as a species tend to shy away from fear? Now keep in mind that I’m talking about a very specific kind of fear here. I’m not talking about fearing for your life/limb/etc. What I’m talking about is the fear of change. The fear of movement. The fear of trying new things. In general, we shy away from it. Is it because we’re comfortable where we are? Is it because of the uncertainty that change can bring? Fear can motivate you to action. Fear can also bring you to a screeching halt and keep you in stagnation.

Are you afraid of some change going on in your life? Are you afraid of the possibility? Don’t be. Look at the situation with a fresh set of eyes. This fear you’re holding could move mountains if you let it.

I don’t really know where I was going with this. Honestly, it has been a very weird week and I had thoughts running around in my brain. What better way to get them out than to use up my Thoughtful Thursday post for the week.

What is Thoughtful Thursday? Well, it’s exactly as it sounds. It is a day during the week where you can jot down your thoughts as a blog post, journal prompt, etc. Some days I’ll have a question I want to answer. Some days it’s just word-vomit on a page. I encourage you to take part, too. Even if you don’t blog publicly like I do, or you don’t have an online presence. Take your Thursdays to reflect on some of those thoughts you may have. You never know. You might gain some much-needed insight.

If you blog on Thoughtful Thursday, I’d love to read it. Drop me a link in the comments, tag me, or send me a message on any of my social media.
