I have grown in my spirituality, and some things have shifted for me. Tune in to listen while we revisit the ideas behind the different “-theisms”, their definitions, and how I’ve grown to know them.
~ Atheism – a lack of belief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods
~ Henotheism – the worship of one god without denying the existence of other gods
~ Monotheism – the doctrine or belief that there is but one God
~ Duotheism – not in the dictionary, but often used to describe the belief in two deities; traditional Wicca, for example
~ Polytheism – belief in or worship of more than one god
~ Pantheism – a doctrine that equates God with the forces and laws of the universe
~ Theism – belief in the existence of a god or gods
~ Hard vs. Soft Polytheism? Is it a thing?
Is Wicca inherently duotheistic? Monotheistic? That depends on how you see the Gods. Are they their own beings, or do you believe in them as archetypes? That is duotheism, not polytheism.
Can soft polytheism be a thing when, semantically, you’re just describing duotheism or monotheism if you believe all Gods are one God and all Goddesses are one Goddess?
