Sometimes a plain beanie is too plain, but a complex beanie is too much. I’ve developed this pattern here, the Sweet Stitches Beanie, for times like this.

Difficulty: Intermediate
Guage: 6dc by 4 rows – 2in x 2in square
Yarn Used: Worsted Weight (4) – I used Big Twist Value at Joann’s
Hook Used: I hook (5.25mm)
Yardage Needed: Approximately 130yds total, 84 of color A and 46 of color B

Legend

All terms are US standard crochet terms.
ch – Chain
sl st – Slip Stitch
dc – Double Crochet
hdc – Half-Double Crochet
fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet
st – Stitch

A special stitch is required that involves crocheting into the 3rd Loop of each stitch. You can find a tutorial for this here from 5 Little Monsters.

To Begin: In a magic ring, ch2 (does not count as 1st dc here and throughout), 12dc in ring, sl st to join (12dc)

1: ch2, 2dc each st around, sl st to join (24dc)

2: ch2, 2dc same st, 1 dc next st, [2dc next st, 1 dc next st], repeat [*] around, sl st to join (36dc)

3: ch2, 2dc same st, 1dc next 2st, [2dc next st, 1dc next 2st], repeat [*] around, sl st to join (48dc)

4: ch2, 2dc same st, 1dc next 3st, [2dc next st, 1dc next 3st], repeat [*] around, sl st to join (60dc)

5: ch2, 1dc same st, 1dc each st around, sl st to join, fasten off (60dc)

6: Join with color B in the 3rd loop of any st of the previous row, ch2, 1hdc same st, 1hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around, sl st to join, fasten off (60hdc)

7: Join with color A in the 3rd loop of any st of the previous row, ch2, 1hdc same st, 1hdc in the 3rd loop of each st around, sl st to join, fasten off (60hdc)

8: Repeat row 6 (60hdc)

9: Join with color A in the 3rd loop of any st of the previous row, ch2, 1dc same st, 1dc in the 3rd loop of each st around, sl st to join (60dc)

10: ch2, 1dc same st, 1dc each st around, sl st to join, fasten off (60dc)

11 – 14: Repeat rows 6 through 9

15: ch2, 1dc same st, 1dc each st around, sl st to join (60dc)

16: ch2, 1dc same st, 1dc each st around, sl st to join, fasten off (60dc)

17 – 19: ch2, 1fpdc same st, 1fpdc next st, 1bpdc next 2 st, [1fpdc next 2 st, 1bpdc next 2st], repeat [*] around, sl st to join (60 total stitches)

Fasten off and weave in ends!
